Lynn Terry will return to lead the congregational singing.

In two short weeks the Hemingway Campground will become active with lively music, local speakers, prayer breakfasts, and evening meals.

Long-standing favorite Lynn Terry will again lead congregational singing. The C-4 Carolinas Coastal Campmeeting Choir will sing on opening night, May 19. Various church choirs will sing on the following nights, and on Friday there will be a youth rally with local bands, praise and worship teams, and drama ministry.

Supper on the grounds will be served Monday through Friday at 6:00 p.m. and the evening services will be at 7:00 p.m.

Check out the Hemingway Campground website for more information.

Rodeo Time at Countyline Arena Rodeo

Countyline Arena Rodeo May 3, 2013

Countyline Arena Rodeo May 3, 2013

I posted a video on Facebook that I took at the Countyline Arena Rodeo last night and my cousin from Minnesota said she didn’t know there were cowboys in South Carolina. Another friend commented “We have boys and girls, cows and horses, jeans, hats n boots..even denim shirts…” One thing is certain – we know how to have fun doing whatever suits our fancy.

The video is too large to upload directly to this blog, but this link will take you to a video on Facebook.

Way Down upon the Pee Dee River…

Even though I grew up in northern Indiana I’ve known the song “Swanee River” since I was a child. But I didn’t know that the song had been written about the Pee Dee River until in 1970 when I first moved to South Carolina to teach school.

Not only did I learn about the song, but I was also told that when people got the Pee Dee sand between their toes they couldn’t leave. It must be true, because this Indiana & Tennessee girl never moved away for longer than a few months since I first came in 1970.

The Pee Dee River fairly well defines the section of South Carolina known as the Pee Dee – those counties in South Carolina that connect to the Pee Dee River. This blog is about the folks, past and present, of South Carolina’s Pee Dee. My main emphasis is on the smaller communities that are easily overlooked.

I hope to find other writers who will take on this blogging challenge with me. If you are interested, please contact me through this blog.
